MARTIN PAULUSMA
MARTIN CHARLES (CHAS) PAULUSMA January 19, 1945 - July 9, 2009 It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden yet peaceful passing of our loving husband, father, Papa, brother, brother-in-law and uncle, at his residence on July 9, 2009. Chas was born to Charles and Tienie Paulusma on January 19, 1945 and is predeceased by both his parents. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife Pauline, daughters Karen (Gary), Allison (Chris), Kristen (Darryl) and Michelle. Papa will also be forever missed by his grandchildren, Derrick, Tyler, Bryan, Nicole, Danielle, Conner, Madison, Travis, Sheldon and Mackenzie. His memory will also be cherished by his sister Joan Proteau, many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Chas will also be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his many, many friends. He made friends easily and was well liked, due in large part to his fun and easy-going nature. Dad was born and raised in St. Germain and lived all of his life the in area. Dad's first job was a machinist in automotive supplies, then enjoyed success in aviation mechanics, then real estate and finally took over the family market garden in St. Germain from his parents in 1982. This often included fighting the many floods of the mighty Red River. The Red finally won in 1997 and Dad retired in St. Vital shortly after. Dad was a true family man and adored spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was always there to help anyone, family, friends or even strangers and he was happy to do so. He had a natural talent and passion for cars (mechanics) and playing guitar. He had the most fun when jammin with anyone who was willing to pick . Family gatherings usually included music, singing and playing guitars. Not only was he naturally gifted in many trades; he was also gifted in teaching others. This became a growing passion with his three son-in-laws and grandchildren. Dad was highly mechanical, innovative and creative. He was always tinkering, creating and inventing right until his final moments where he was persistent and committed to working hard and helping out. He was genuinely a kind, gentle and giving man. The family would like to thank family and friends for the outpour of love and support. We would also like to thank the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services and the Winnipeg Police Services as well as Dr. R. Hayward for his long-term care for Dad. A public celebration of his life will take place on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
